Life After Work—Retired, and Still Trying (and Laughing Along the Way)
Welcome to Retired and Trying — a space where humor, simplicity, and purpose meet. I’m Don Romans, a retired manufacturing leader turned creator. After decades in the 9-to-5 grind, I discovered that retirement isn’t the finish line — it’s a whole new chapter full of learning, laughter, and coffee-fueled creativity.
Here, I share lessons from real life — from trying new side hustles and managing retirement finances to embracing slow mornings and funny moments that come with aging gracefully.
Why I write about retirement and fixed-income living
I spent over 30 years working in manufacturing leadership roles, managing budgets, teams, and long-term planning. When I retired, I discovered how little practical guidance exists for people living on Social Security or a fixed income — especially from those actually living it.
Everything on Retired and Trying is based on real experience, not theory. I write from the perspective of someone navigating retirement decisions in real time — budgeting, downsizing, finding purpose, and adjusting expectations.
